Hi all, I decided to try phenibut because I have HORRIBLE insomnia. Other people complaining about waking up every 2-3 hours or "only" getting 3-4 hours a night - that sounds like a dream come true to me. I have tried ambien, seroquel, trozodone, lorazepam, xanax, melatonin, valerian, 5-htp, allergy meds, cold meds - literally everything in the past 6 months when it got really reallyl bad. I have 2 very young kids so I admit I can get highly anxious at night due to possible night time wake ups, though they rarely if ever get up in the middle of the night anymore.
What worked the best (while still not perfect) was a combination of vitamins and magnesium citrate as well as acupuncture. Sadly, we moved across the country a few weeks ago so I am unable to get acupuncture treatments until I find a reputable practitioner here. And now I am struggling to fall asleep even with all my vitamin intake.
The particular phenibut I`m using is called Phenitropic by Biotics Research, which comes in 300mg capsules. The first night I took one at around 7:30pm, immediately felt at ease. But I was still struggling to fall asleep at night. I took another 300mg pill at around 1am, and I think I fell asleep at around 2am or so and woke up at 6:30am ish. The next night I decided not to take any. Did not sleep at all. I was so tired the third night, yet still could not fall asleep. Finally took one 300mg pill at around 2, fell asleep almost immediately and woke up at 7am. Next night (last night) I took one 300mg pill at around 10pm. Could not fall asleep. Took another one at 2:30? I think I must have fallen asleep at around 3-3:30am. My husband woke me up at 7:30am to get our kids' Easter baskets ready (he normally does not wake me up on weekends if I`m asleep).
I`m getting frustrated already even though this has "worked". Cannot figure out when/how much to take so that I can fall asleep before midnight. I seem to get 3-4 hours of sleep on it, which is all I really need at this point. So even if I wake up at 4-5am, that is fine with me as long as I've gotten 3-4 hours of sleep. I had a bit of grogginess/hang-over feel in the morning but not overly so. And I don't have any of that side effect this morning.
I don't know if I should take 2 pills at once (600mg) or increase the dosage? Also, I read about taking breaks. Is it necessary at this dosage? I am not interested in any recreational euphoria, in fact I do not enjoy it at all... As a reference I don't drink at all because I don't like the "buzz" or shortness of breath/hot feeling I get when I drink. So I am afraid of that "euphoria" if I increase dosage, but I desperately need to get some consistency in my sleep.
